Winchester Museum Trip. Thursday 10th March

Today we went to visit the Hampshire Museum to look at their historical garment archive. We were shown a variety of garments and discussed what each piece would have probably been worn for and who by. It was really interesting to talk to a historian and ask questions about the different pieces. We also saw a childs outfit which was very sweet and made me realise that the children were dressed similaly to the adults.

Whilst looking at the garments it made me realise how small their frames must have been as apposed to todays standards.

It was also interesting to see the type of fabric that would've been used and the colour palet. We also saw a range of corsets and undergraments which were very interesting also. One item which is very rare now was a working woman's corset-this was still structured but used padding to give this structure rather than boning.
